Did You Know!?
Red Deer Fish & Game Association gives an annual bursary of $1000 to the Red Deer College. If began in the mid 1980’x when the provincial government matched the donation given. Our association gave $5000 in the “good years” when interest rates were high. The bursary has grown and is the perpetual award. A student following an education in fish & wildlife, biology, forestry and ecological programs is chosen by the college each year.
Scholarships have also been set up with the three high schools in Red Deer. Each receives $1000 for a grade 12 student entering the similar careers as the college programs.
One way to encourage and support our youth!
Red Deer Fish & Game Association has been donating books to our Red Deer Public Library since the early 1970’s? At that time it was one book a year, then in the 1980’s Larry Nash (from Nash Book Store and always a supporter of the Sportsman Show) started picking out a book and the club paid him. When Larry passed away, there were a few years when the donations ceased. In 1997, Venny was given a sum each year and has chosen wildlife, hunting, fishing and outdoor books. Our support for the public library continues each year!
